Panthers fall to North Putnam, North Central

Cougars beat Panthers

The Riverton Parke boys’ basketball team took losses to North Putnam on Saturday, Feb. 17, and North Central on Tuesday.

Visiting North Putnam won their 9th straight game by beating the Panthers 82-57 on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The Panthers trailed only 12-11 after one period and 27-25 late in the second period. But the Cougars ended the period on a 10-3 run to take a 37-28 lead at halftime. North Putnam extended their lead to 57-44 by the end of the third quarter.

Pierson Robins made six 3-pointers and scored a game high 28 points to lead the Panthers. Collett Sanders was also in double figures with 10 points.

On Tuesday, the Panthesr rallied late but could not take the lead in a 73-68 loss at North Central.

Riverton Parke trailed 12-11 after one quarter. North Central outscored the Panthers 25-16 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-27 lead at halftime.

North Central built their lead in the third period to 13 at one points and held a 55-45 lead at the start of the final period.

Riverton Parke still trailed by 16 points with 3:05 remaining. Pierson Robins and Charlie Belcher each made 3-pointers to get the deficit back to 10. Eventually Riverton Parke kept chipping away and with 30 seconds to play had the ball and trailed only 71-68. But the Panthers could not score again and the T-Birds held on.

Collett Sanders scored a game high 27 points to lead the Panthers. He set a Riverton Parke school record by making a perfect 19-19 from the free throw line.

Pierson Robins scored 23 points and made four 3-pointers.

Riverton Parke won the JV game 50-36. Derek Collom led the Panthers with 18 points. Jonah Hopekins and Eli Roberts were also in double figures with 13 and 10 respectively.

Riverton Parke (3-18) was scheduled to host South Vermillion on Thursday.
